Discipleship really is a tough business! Discipleship is low priority in the American church. Why? I do not have all the answers, but I know there is a great emphasis placed on spiritual growth not discipleship. Spiritual growth is much simpler and subjective. Discipleship is a grind! I know that sounds harsh but it is true. It is sharing and modeling your life with someone. It is time intensive, work and a commitment, but so rewarding. I think Jesus understood the grind and importance of discipleship. He discipled 12 guys and 11 of them changed the world! The Biblical mandate is to make disciples. (Matt 28:19).
